Palm Beach State College Board Policy
Title: Leave of Absence for Purpose of Campaigning for Office
Policy Number: 6Hx-18-5.10
Legal Authority: 1001.64 FS, 1001.65 FS
Date Adopted/Amended: Formerly P007.00; Readopted 2/27/1975; Amended 2/20/1977, 6/19/2001, 5/12/2009
If there is a need for an employee to be absent from duties for the purpose of running for political office, the employee must provide proper notice.
Any employee who has filed to run for office shall be required to request leave for political reasons effective the date of the first need for being absent. Such request must be filed with the President at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the proposed effective date of its commencement.
If granted, this leave shall continue in accordance with the approved time frame. An employee may return from such leave early by notifying the President by letter. Such a letter must be in the hands of the President at least thirty (30) calendar days before the employee wishes to return to duty.
This policy does not restrict a candidate to being granted only one leave for political reasons during a campaign. If multiple dates of absence are necessary, requests for time off are to be submitted separately. Leave for political reasons is personal leave granted without compensation.
