Institutional Student Learning Outcomes
About Institutional Student Learning Outcomes
PBSC's Quality Learning Improvement Committee established the following competencies in May 2023.
- Communication: Students will demonstrate appropriate organization, language, style, content, sources and delivery when communicating within the subject area.
- Critical Thinking: Students will examine varying perspectives and exhibit knowledge of civic and social responsibility, politics, government, cultural literacy and information literacy within the subject area.
- Information Literacy: Students will collect, analyze and interpret data, draw conclusions, and solve problems that require computational fluency, scientific reasoning and/or evidence-based methodology within the subject area.
ISLO Assessment
Institutional Student Learning Outcomes are assessed by reviewing sample course level assignments using the holistic rubrics identified and validated for each ISLO. The course level assignments are called signature assignments.
Signature assignments are selected by faculty in general education core courses and in programmatic courses that are part of the assessment. The scoring is completed by faculty assigned to an action team of the Quality Learning Improvement Committee. This scoring is typically completed during professional development day each spring term.
