Requirements
The Drumline in currently open to all Palm Beach State College Students, and participation is based on a preliminary audition for placement for one of four instruments: snare, tenor, bass or cymbals. It is a non-credit activity.
Drumline members must be:
- enrolled as PBSC students.
- able to perform physical activities.
- committed to attending all rehearsals unless excused by the director.
At rehearsals, Drumline members should bring:
- A pencil and two different color highlighters
- Ear plugs (suggested, but not required)
- Marching sticks/mallets (some sticks may be provided)
- Good attitude, open mind and good vibes!
Instrument Sections
- Snare & Tenor: The snare and tenor are the primary foundation of the drumline. The snare and tenor sections play the most complex music parts, and have the most demand for accuracy and precision. At Palm Beach State College, we march up to 6 snares and 3 tenors.
- Bass Drum & Cymbals: The bass drum and cymbal sections are the driving force that supports the other voices of the drumline, and provide the visuals as well as the impact and depth that helps the drumline to be heard from across campus. The bassline requires a good understanding of math and timing, and the cymbal section requires some strength and the ability to perform high-energy movements.
Auditions
Auditions are held throughout the year. Auditionees are expected to learn audition music and watch our training videos to learn how the PBSC Drumline approaches playing and performing. To request an audition, please submit our player interest form and our staff will reach out to you.
