Limited & Controlled Access Program Applications
Some of Palm Beach State College’s most in-demand programs require additional applications beyond the general admissions application. The College has two types of special admissions programs.
Limited Access Programs: The number of students is limited. Additional students will not be admitted after the program reaches capacity.
Controlled Access Programs: All students are admitted if they meet the program requirements. Additional classes will be added to accommodate additional students.
General Steps to Apply to a Limited or Controlled Access Programs
- Apply to Palm Beach State College for general admission.
- Create Your Student Account. You will need your student ID number and email login to apply for limited or controlled programs.
- Review all program requirements in the College Catalog for programs that interest you.
- Review deadlines and specific application information in the list below for programs that interest you.
- Apply to programs of interest using our Engage platform. Review this How To Guide.
- Limited Access Program applications require a $20 non-refundable application fee. It is payable online through the PBSC eMarket payment portal by secure transaction using a credit/debit card.
- If you’re not able to complete your entire application in one sitting, you can access it again before you submit it. Return to a previously submitted application.
- Submit. Thank you!
- Review your status. All communications will be sent to your Palm Beach State College email. Applicants are responsible for checking this email account regularly and responding as requested.

It is strongly recommended that the applicant have all necessary information available prior to starting this application.
You will be required to provide details and/or proof regarding admissions requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

Applicants that are currently enrolled in courses, should not apply until grades have posted to your PBSC student transcript.
Incomplete applications on the deadline date will not proceed for program consideration.
It will take 20-30 minutes to complete the application.

- Test of Adult Basic Education or have a qualifying exemption per the College Catalog.

Maximum Points Possible: 70. Completed with a Grade of C or higher by the application
deadline date. Lecture and lab must be complete to be awarded points. Coursework is
optional for points in application process not required for program admission or certificate

After the minimum eligibility requirements are met, a point system will be used to determine program admission. There is no point minimum; the more points a student earns, the more likely they are to be admitted. Tie Breaker is student's overall cumulative GPA.
Applicants who completed a CODA Dental Assisting program and gain admission to the Dental Hygiene program must take a comprehensive knowledge and skills assessment. The assessment is 150-200 questions based on the articulated Dental Assisting foundation courses. It will be used to determine any areas where remediation may be required. In addition to the exam, the Dental Hygiene program requires enrollment in the following courses:
- DES1200L Dental Radiology Lab 1 credit
- DES1800L Introduction to Clinical Procedures Lab 1 credit
Dental Experience Qualification:
- Applicant must have completed a CODA Dental Assisting program within the last three (3) years.
- Employment must be within the last three (3) years for a minimum of 1 year with a Dental practice.
Documentation required:
- Transcript reflecting completion of CODA Dental Assisting program
- Letter on dental practice/company letterhead
- Signed by the immediate Supervisor or Human Resources designee
- With dates of employment
- Position held,
- Duties performed that reflect direct, hands-on patient care
Recommendation letters will not be accepted.
Application Points System
Point scales are subject to change each application cycle. Please attend an information session or met with an Academic Advisor for assistance.
Maximum Points Possible: 350
Area 1: Pre-Requisite Course Grades
Applicants are awarded points for the grade earned in the Lecture course. Plus, and minus are not used. A=40, B=30, C=20
Maximum Points Possible: 200.

- BSC2085L Anatomy and Physiology 1 Lab
- A College-level Physics (PHY) course - PHY1020 preferred.
All transcripts and course re-evaluation appeals must be submitted a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the deadline.
Students do not need to request Palm Beach State College transcripts.

- Must outline specific patient care experience duties as related to the selection criteria

Every student must complete the following documents and upload copies of them to the Controlled Access Application (Program Agreement):

Information Sessions
Every student must complete at least one of the following information sessions. Remember to copy the screen showing your completed quiz score and save the screenshot into a Word document. The document will be submitted as an assignment during your HIM1000C course.

ELO1000 Canvas Orientation
Every student must complete the ELO1000 Canvas Orientation course and upload a copy of your Certificate of Completion to the Controlled Access Application (Program Agreement). This free course offered online will provide you with a guide on how to use of our learning management system (LMS). All HIM courses use the LMS, so it is important the you are prepared to work within the system.
Application Tips
- Check the Academic Calendar for term and session start dates and give yourself enough time to apply.
- Once you apply, activate your Palm Beach State Email. All communications, including admissions status, will be sent to your Palm Beach State email.
- You must have all general college admission criteria completed in order to be considered for approval for enrollment. This includes submission of High School transcripts or the equivalent.
- It is highly recommended that you complete all the General Education for your selected program before entering the core courses of your program. If you do not complete the General Education this can limit your options for core courses because many of the General Education courses are prerequisites to the core courses. Please contact the program department chair for educational planning of core courses.
- You will complete the program agreements requirements in your HIM1000C Introduction to Health Information Management course).
- In order to enroll in core curriculum classes (HIM1282C, HIM1210C, HIM1012C, HIM2510C, and HIM2652C), you must first complete the Program Agreement for the program department chair. This process allows the program to validate student progression and track students in these courses and more advanced courses for program accreditation requirements.
- Any student meeting minimum program application requirements is encouraged to apply. However, all students must meet all the minimum requirements. Additionally it is prudent to complete all general education requirements before beginning Health Information programs to ensure your success on certification examination.
- It is highly recommended that part-time students seeking the Health Information Technology A.S. degree complete the Medical Information Coder/Biller CCC program first, before applying to the A.S. degree program.
- After Acceptance - You receive notification of approval for enrollment if you meet the requirements. You will then be able to enroll as you would for any other course.
- Please email the program Department Chair for more information or a copy of the current Program Agreement.
Massage Therapy CCP
Limited Access Program Application - Program Begins Spring 2025

This program is tentatively scheduled to become a controlled access program and an
application is no longer required.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Standard High School diploma or GED.
- Test of Adult Basic Education or have a qualifying exemption per the College Catalog.
Steps for Program Admission
1. Apply to Palm Beach State College if not already a student. Please apply as a non-degree seeking student.
2. Attend a Massage Therapy information session.
3. Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) if required. You can speak with an Academic Advisor regarding this requirement.
4. Apply for financial aid.
5. Contact Massage Therapy Program Director, Kelly Morgan, at morgank@palmbeachstate.edu. Please be sure to include your student ID number.
Before program admission is finalized students will be required to undergo a drug screening, background check and complete a health screening at their own expense. This requirement must be satisfied in order to register for Massage Therapy program courses.

Steps 1 - 7
1. Apply to Palm Beach State College if not already a student.
2. View the Medical Assisting Program Information Session.
3. Take the Post Education Readiness Test (PERT) if needed.
4. Contact Financial Aid.
5. Find out more about tuition and fees.
6. Contact Medical Assisting Program Director, Penny Knight, at mintsp@palmbeachstate.edu. Send your student ID# and the pathway you have chosen:
a. Medical Assisting Specialist CCC (44 credit hours) Program #6313
b. Medical Assisting Advanced (65 credit hours) Program #2314.
7. Declare your Program Objective in Workday
If you meet all the college admission requirements, you will be contacted (via your college email) with your individualized course sequence to assist you with your course selections for the upcoming semester.
Steps 8 - 10
Steps 8 - 10 are completed during your MEA1007, Introduction to Medical Assisting course. You are financially responsible for steps 8 & 9. If requirements are not met student cannot continue in the Program.
8. Undergo a drug screen and background check (form and details provided during MEA1007, must be submitted by last day of semester).
9. Complete health screenings (form and details provided during MEA1007, must be submitted by last day of semester).
10. Complete and submit a program-specific forms packet (forms provided during MEA1007 and due by first week of semester).
*If you chose to not continue in the Medical Assisting Program, earned credit from MEA1007 does not transfer to any other AS Program.
